DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Electrical Engineering Department is established in 1991 with UG course in Electrical Engineering with intake of 60 students, PG course in Electrical Power Systems in 2000 and Post Graduate Research Centre in 2005. The department has the state of art laboratories to cater needs of ultra-modern curriculum. Department has team of dedicated and experienced faculty members. All faculty members are having PG qualification. Department has good association with eminent persons – both from academics and industry.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

  • PEO1: To provide students with strong knowledgebase of Electrical Engineering to excel in industry and in higher studies.
  • PEO2: To provide students with the fundamental knowledge in Engineering Sciences with more emphasis in Electrical Engineering to develop their competency in analysis, synthesis and problem solving in the related field.
  • PEO3: To train students with good scientific and engineering breadth so as to provide engineering solution in an appropriate technological, global, societal, environmental, ethical and organizational context.
  • PEO4: To inculcate professional qualities such as teamwork, leadership, entrepreneurial thinking, communication skills, professional thinking in students.
  • PEO5: To provide students with an excellent academic environment so as to motivate them for developing lifelong learning abilities.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

  • PO1. An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering fundamentals to analyze various concepts of Electrical Engineering.
  • PO2. An ability to apply knowledge gained during the program to identify, formulate, design and solve engineering problems achieving measurable results.
  • PO3. An ability to design systems, process, system-components or prototypes to meet requirement of Electrical Engineering or allied industry, with economic viability, safety, environmental and regulatory aspects.
  • PO4. An ability to carry out experiments, simulations and investigate the data obtained for providing valid conclusions with effective documentation.
  • PO5. An ability to select, apply appropriate technique, resources and modern engineering tools such as PLC, Advanced microcontrollers, application oriented softwares and processors etc.
  • PO6. An ability to communicate effectively on various forums pertaining to Engineering field for resolving different issues.

Doctorate in Electrical Engineering

The Electrical Engineering Department of COETis approved as a ‘Post Graduate Research Center in Electrical Engineering’ by University of Pune since July 2005.

Three Students have completed Ph.D and 10 students have already registered for Ph.D. Two students are undergoing Ph.D. course work.

The research activities in the department are funded by agencies like DST, DRDO etc. The research centre also has close association with MSEB for various activities. Post Graduate in Electrical Engineering

The Post-graduate course in Electrical Engineering was first introduced in August 2000. Fourteen batches of Postgraduate students have completed their terms. Results of earlier batches are encouraging. Many students of earlier batches have completed their post-graduation with first class and first class with distinction in the two years’ span.Uptill now total 140 students have completed their Post Graduation from this department. Adding to its excellence this Course is N.B.A accredited for three years since September 2013. Many candidates are GATE qualified and they receive scholarship from AICTE, New Delhi and UGC.

Post Graduate students are actively involved in sponsored research projects funded by various funding agencies.The department also has good liaison with industry through Post Graduate projects.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION (EESA)

Electrical Engineering Students’ Association (EESA) was formed in the year 1991. EESA organizes many activities, such as, organizing guest lectures, industrial visits, co-curricular and extra –curricular events, etc. throughout the year. EESA publishes its annual souvenir “OHM’ every year. EESA maintains students’ library in the Electrical department, which consists of text books, reference books, proceedings of national and international conferences and journals. Some of the activities of EESA are highlighted as below

  2. Guest Lecture by Sandeep Upadhye was organized by EESA on 31st2017. Mr. Upadhye gave the students information about modern softwares used in the Electrical engineering.
  3. A Guest Lecture “Cyber Security” was arranged by EESA on 4th2017, by Mr.AnubhavLal.
  4. “GURUPOORNIMA” function was organized by EESA on 19th July, 2016. Dr.Mrs.G.A.Vaidya guided students on “ethics that should be followed in student life”.
  5. A Guest Lecture by was organized by EESA on 19th July, information to the students regarding various exams like GRE, TOEFL, IELTS was given to students.
  6. EESA Inauguration function was organized on 2nd Sept, 2016 by the hands of chief guest of this function, Mr. Anant Mahajan, Director of Siddhi Consulting Engineers. The EESA committee was formally introduced during this event. This was followed by a cultural event where students of TE Electrical gave dance and singing performances.
  7. During 21st to 23rd Sept.2016, “Electrabuzz” the annual event of the Electrical Department was organized.

  3. On the occasion of “GURUPOURNIMA” on Friday 31st July 2015, EESA organized a small function to felicitate the staff members of Electrical Engg. Dept. of PVG’s COET Pune.
  4. EESA 2015-16 was officially inaugurated by Mr. OmprakashBarure from Bageshree Instrumentation Trainers and Consultants, on Friday 28th August 2015. On this occasion he delivered a lecture on Automation & Instrumentation.

  6. A guest lecture on the topic “Bio-gas power plant”, by Mr. Pranav.D.Kulkarni, was organized on Wednesday, 9th September 2015 for BE Electrical students.
  7. ELECTRABUZZ’15 was organized by EESA in our college premises on 11th 12th& 13thof September 2015, under which many technical and non-technical events were organized.

  12. Atlas Copco day was celebrated on 14.03.2016 wherein a prestigious Kruttika Scholarship of Rs. 50000/- was awarded to Ms. AnishaGirishPendse who stood first in girls in TE Electrical exam May 2015. The scholarship was awarded by Mr. Giovanni Valent of Atlas Copco.

  3. A Guest lecture on “Power Quality” by Dr. R. Venkatesh was organized on 17.07.2014 for TE, BE and ME (Electrical) students.
  4. Formal EESA Inauguration function was organized on 11.08.2014. Our proud alumni Mr. HrishikeshPatki was felicitated for securing 153rd rank in UPSC exam 2014. The function was followed by a cultural program by students of Electrical Engineering.
  5. EESA has organized an intercollegiate event "ELECTRABUZZ 2014" during 26th – 28th September 2014. It consisted of technical, non-technical and sports competitions. The various events were Techno Dumbs (enact the technical term), Circuit Fixer (debug the faulty circuits), MAD with CAD, Inquisitive Heads, Capture the moment, Treasure Hunt, War of words, Carom, Chess, Basketball, Football and Box Cricket.
  6. A Guest lecture on “What After BE?” by Dr. ShreeramGeet, a well-known career counsellor, was organized on 19.01.2015 for students of Electrical Engineering.
  7. A guest lecture on “Environment Conservation” by Mr. YashPataskar – our student of F.E. Electrical, was organized on 24.01.2015 for students of FE, SE and TE Electrical.
  8. A Guest lecture on “Fractional Calculus” by Dr. VishweshVyavahare was organized on 13.02.2015 in the morning session for TE, BE and ME (Electrical) students.
  9. A Guest lecture on “Electrical Workshop” by Prof. Mrs. VinayaDeshmukh was organized on 13.02.2015 in the afternoon session for TE Electrical students.
  10. A one day exhibition on “Electrical Safety” was organized on 27.02.2015 to create an awareness among the students about Electrical Safety. More than 40 students from SE and TE participated in the exhibition by presenting safety aspects in various fields of electrical engineering in the form of models and charts. Selected groups were awarded prizes. The event was a great success.

  • A major event organized by EESA, in 203-14, was the “State Level Paper Presentation Competition BRMHA’13”. The Event took place on Friday, 27th September 2014. Over 19 papers were presented by the students from various engineering colleges in Maharashtra. Different prizes worth Rs. 7000/- were distributed.

  1. This year EESA was inaugurated on 11th September 2012 at the hands of Mr. R. L. Tailor, Director, PCRA and a lecture was arranged on FACTs & Power Systems Operation & Control for BE students delivered by Dr. Sanjay Dambhare.
  2. EESA also celebrated Teachers' Day on 5th September 2012.There was a cultural program arranged by EESA for all students of Electrical Engineering from FE to ME.
  3. EESA had organized a college level event named "ELECTRABUZZ 2012" held on the 14th, 15th and 16th of September 2012 to test the knowledge and skill of the students in various fields as well as to inculcate the qualities of fair competition and the true spirit of sportsmanship in them.
  4. EESA had also arranged industrial visits of SE, TE & BE classes to various industries in and around Maharashtra State for various academic subjects. These visits help the students to keep pace with theoretical knowledge & their practical implementation.

  • Numerous advantages of machine like reduced loss and higher efficiency, robust  construction and reduced maintenance, requirement of partially rated converter, variable speed application is possible.

Research outcomes
  • To demonstrate the importance of Energy conservation and its efficient use through Microgrid as a stepping stone towards Smart Grid technology and its benefits to the society.
  • To Study Power management strategies, control algorithms and its evaluation taking into consideration various suitable distributed energy resources, their level, size and energy storage options from the real time data.
  • To frame hardware configuration for the energy and power management systems in order to get the optimized operation without changing the building structure.
  • To study and analyze technical and economical issues related to the microgrid at the campus level, for performance enhancement.
  • Development of the controller for various Generation-Load demand requirments.
  • To demonstrate the Generation priority selection for smart campus.
  • To analyze effect of various battery characteristics on the Performance of Microgrid.

Rahee obtained her PhD from Lancaster University, UK in 2008 in the area of mobile robotics and AI. She is the Recipient of the prestigious Overseas Research Studentship award of Universities UK, Govt. of UK.Since 2008, she has been involved in a number of research projects ranging from Aerospace, healthcare to Autonomous vehicles. She is the WOS-A research fellow of Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. Under this fellowship, she developed and implemented the algorithms for sensor data acquisition and auto-navigation and auto-parking for a car type mobile robot platform.. Her current research interests include Multi Sensor fusion, hardware implementation of algorithms, autonomous navigation and intelligent systems with Deep nets. Significant Contributions : Madhura Ingalhalikar, has a cutting-edge experience in the field of medical image analysis from University of Pennsylvania, USA. Her work on Diffusion MRI and Connectomes at UPenn produced multiple high impact journal papers including a paper in PNAS (on structural connectome based sex differences) which was commended by the neuro-imaging community and received great media attention. She is well versed with diffusion MRI protocols, processing pipelines, diffusion image analysis, connectomes and connectomic analysis. She has now joined Symbiosis International University, Pune as a faculty and wishes to pursue her career through scientific developments in technology for enhancing lives of patients with neuro-psychiatric disorders in India. She has more than 600 citations on her biodata with h-index equal to 10.

  • The memorandum of understanding between M/s Bangale Associates and Pune VidyarthiGriha’s College of Engineering and Technology, Pune i.e Knowledge Park is made to acquire and transfer the knowledge, skills, experience as required by industry to engineering students, faculty members and engineers working on different projects related to Electrical Engineering on 15th December,2010.
